SIFU MIKE GORTON
Like so many others of his generation, Mike was inspired to take up Martial Arts in the 1970's after watching the 'Kung Fu' TV programme featuring David Carradine. However, at that time the only Martial Arts that were on offer were the Japanese Martial Arts of Karate, Judo and Aikido.
Mike was lucky to find a local Aikido class where he began his Martial Arts training, and afterwards continued his training in a wide variety of other Martial Arts systems, including Shotokan Karate, Wado Ryu Karate, Lau Gar Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Ninjutsu.
After trying many styles but never quite finding the system he was looking for, in 1997 Mike finally discovered a local Wing Chun club and hasn't been tempted to look elswhere since as it provided the perfect fit and made sense as a practical fighting art.
Mike took over the running of the Stafford club in 2000, and in 2005 began teaching Kung Fu professionally. After passing the Technician grades Mike became the Staffordshire Instructor for the WTKO and was acknowledged as a Sifu in 2009.
Besides teaching Martial Arts, Mike is also an Musician and Craft Worker. Hobbies include Walking, Weight Training, Sailing, Surfing, Wind Surfing and Skiing.
